Woodstock Music & Art Fair presents An Aquarian Exposition in White Lake, N.Y. 3 days of peace & music.
El nuevo recopilatorio de Rhino incluye 38 grabaciones nunca publicadas del mítico festival, que este mes de agosto cumple su 40º aniversario. Son treinta y ocho canciones inéditas, de bandas como the Who, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival o Jefferson Airplane que verán la luz en este recopilatorio, que se publica el 18 de agosto, y que incluye en orden cronológico todas las 77 canciones que se interpretaron en el festival, así como anuncios del escenario y otros sonidos de ambiente. El disco incluye la versión de 19 minutos de Dark Star de The Dead a cargo de The Who, así como Amazing Journey y Pinball Wizard, el popular Bad Moon Rising de la Creedence, que fue número 1 en el mes de septiembre de ese año, Blood Sweat and Tears con You’ve Made Me So Very Happy y otras canciones de Sweetwater, Tim Hardin, Ravi Shankar, Joan Baez, Melanie, Country Joe & the Fish, Sha Na Na, Johnny Winter y otros. Entre los inéditos están las interpretaciones de Arlo Guthrie Coming Into Los Angeles y de Mountain Theme For an Imaginary Western. Esta edición se une en este año de celebración a la reedición del documental Woodstock: 3 días de paz y música con el que Michael Wadleigh retrató el hito del movimiento hippie en 1969, con el que ganó un oscar en 1971 y que contó con el entonces poco conocido Martin Scorsese como asistente de dirección. En cuanto a la celebración del aniversario, el 15 de agosto tendrá lugar en el Bethel Woods Center for the Arts un concierto que recogerá alguna de las grandes figuras que estuvieron en Woodstock, los llamados Heroes of Woodstock . Allí estarán Jefferson Starship, que interpretará el setlist de Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat, Ten Years After y Grateful Dead, Levon Helm (The Band), Big Brother & The Holding Co. que interpretarán el setlist de Janis Joplin y Country Joe McDonald.
